Default OE inbox flooded by old deleted messages.

Today my Outlook Express decided to download over 1100 old deleted messages to my inbox. Has anyone any idea what has happened or can come up with a solution to restore to normality? Windows XP home SP3, OE6 usual AVG9 etc etc. I could go through the 1100 messages in th e inbox but would really want to know how it happened and how to avoid another time.....

Check your account(s) settings, make sure there's NOT a tick in "leave copy of messages on server".

There sure is a tick in the box you quoted. I have removed it now, but why were all those saved messages on isp downloaded all of a sudden. I see on my wifes PC she has the box ticked but also remove after 5 days. many thanks for speedy reply.

Who knows - ISP in-box full?

The main thing is you've removed the tick, so the problem shouldn't happen again.

Ok so far so good but why did it happen? Are you saying Gill that everyone who uses OE will at some stage get flooded with over a thousand old messages as soon as their server reaches a certain limit if they leave a tick in that box? If you are getting bored with this thread I will understand.......tc

Open Outlook Express, and whilst in the Sent folder, click on View on the Menu bar.
Click Current View. Is Show all messages checked?

I wouldn't think so. I would imagine it depends on individual setups at the server stage, and how many e-mails one receives. I'm not a developer so don't have a definitive answer, but I do know that it's certainly not unknown for people to receive duplicate e-mails en masse, and the problem is always sorted by not leaving copies of e-mails on the server.
