It is not really a "network printer" more a shared printer.

With this set up, the PC the printer is actually plugged in to has to be on, if you print from another PC.

I have this setup with two Vista computers at home (printer installed on one and shared to another) and it works fine.

It gues it must be a setup problem.

Search the Windows help for "sharing a printer" and see if you have set it up right.

If you look at the installed printer icon goining through Start->Control Panel-> Printers, does the printer show as "ready" ? if not, can you investigate from there ?

Any possibility that you have a conflict if you are connected to the printer simultaneously via (i) wifi and / or an (ii) an ethernet cable and / or (iii) a USB lead ?

Can you print from all other connected PCs apart from the "main-laptop" ?
