But my desktop computer.. Not Had It!

I'd really rather it came on its own... Than me have to go and get it.

With one computer with ( Laptop ) - And one computer without ( Desktop ) ... I've noticed something!
Last Tuesday night both computers had 3 Recommended updates. ( The 3 updates were Identical for both computers )
However!
Desktop.. Had all 3 ticked ( Selected ) ready to be installed.
Laptop.. Only 2 were ticked ( Selected ) to be installed.
I had to make my own mind up about the 3rd one.

One Good Thing!
I was at least glad to still have the desktop ( With Old Windows Update ) to compare it with

Thanks!

Zoe
Hi Zoe, yes we still have one desktop to catch up with the newer windows update agent ... hang on in there it will come in.

AND ... yes, I have also seen Important updates appear without a check mark .. note the information to the side says "pending download" please check this update to begin installation.

The words pending do not appear on the others which already have the check mark very weird to say the least!

On my new netbook when I first saw this I thought it meant it had partly downloaded the update before I had changed the settings to be "notify me but let me choose whether to dowload and install" ...being a new pc it had updates set to auto (yes, even though I said let me choose during installation!)

Anyway, this morning on my desktop I had another update show as Important and it wasn't checked ... again the side panel said "pending download"

I shall investigate and post back if I find out where, why when and what micro$tuff are playing at.

Same Here!

But I think I've figured out why some Important or Recommended updates aren't automatically ticked ( Selected! )
Do you think it could be if the computer requires a - Restart ?

Thanks Anne!

Well from what I have seen the information panel on the right says "you may need to restart your computer after installing this update" next to every update ... so it couldn't be that.

The update I had offered today was nothing special so far as I could make out ..it was for Internet Explorer 8 and appeared in Important updates with no check mark and the "pending download" in the info panel (with yellow downwards pointing arrow, the others always have a blue arrow)

Hi Zoe,

update:

I have been discussing the issue of the updates saying "download pending" with the Research Director of WindowsSecrets.com and she tells me that its due to the "throttling" procedure that Microsoft have been using lately.

In non too technical terms it is basically an update that is available for dowload and install but hasn't yet been fully approved so to speak so the box is not yet ticked.
While the update agent has been checking to see what is available the update has been "throttled" (limited/held back) and so although the said update was found it wasn't finished.

If you was to manually run the "check for updates" it should ultimately become available and offered with the box ticked.

Hope this clears this up for you Zoe

Anne

Just looking at my font in my reply above ... looks different, does it look different to you Zoe or Dave

I think I composed that on my netbook but I didn't make any changes to the font in the reply box.

edit

haha ... I know how its happened .. I copied and and pasted the "windowssecrets.com" bit from my email and then continued to type .. its obviously picked up on the font and continued in that font and size doh!
