Thumbnails in Word

Hi,

I have a post running here:

but it has now become more office specific.

Can anyone help tell me where the setting is to enable thumbnails of Word documents to be shown on ALL Word 2007 documents?

If you really want to view Word 2007 documents as thumbnails, you need to open a document, click the Office button -> Prepare -> Properties .
In the Document Properties drop down menu, select ‘Advanced Propeties’ -> Summary -> Select Save preview picture.
You must resave or Save As for this to take affect in an Explorer Window.

I’m not sure why you would want this facility as thumbnails will inevitably slow a system down by design as well as producing much larger file sizes.

It’s one thing to have an image or even a PDF display in minature for obvious reasons, but to have a thumbnail display a document that you cannot distinquish from the next, other than by it’s title, because the text is microscopic is a different matter.

A document shown as a thumbnail tells you very little about the content that an icon or list doesn’t tell you already.

If it's going to slow your system down significantly, which it will if you have a lot of Word documents, you need to ask yourself if it's really worth it.

Thanks to all - The folder options are as they should be - I'll give some thought to the matter of whether it's a good idea to have them. Having had them already - I cant say I noticed any significant speed differences
